Reliable extrusion begins before the press runs
From first contact to final profile
In custom aluminium extrusion, reliability is shaped before production starts. Not on the press, not at dispatch, but in the way an enquiry is understood, checked and followed through from the beginning.
That early work gives the customer fewer assumptions, clearer expectations and more confidence in the route from first enquiry to finished profile.
Clarity before production
A drawing, profile or enquiry may appear straightforward at first, but the detail behind it can change the route forward. The application, alloy, finish, tolerance, lead time and end use all influence what is practical, what needs to be checked and what the customer can realistically plan around. When assumptions are made too early, the impact can appear later as avoidable changes, unclear expectations or pressure on delivery.
At BOAL Extrusion UK, this is where Customer Service Executive Kunal Chauhan becomes involved. Working with customers across the North of the UK, his role covers live orders, new enquiries, pricing requests and the follow-up needed to move work from enquiry through to delivery. The work is practical, but never just transactional.
“Customers need to know their enquiry or order is in safe hands. For me, that means listening properly, asking the right questions early and being open throughout the process."
Kunal Chauhan - Customer Service ExecutiveCustom extrusion rarely starts with a standard answer. One customer may need support with a new profile. Another may need clarity on alloys, finishing or lead time. Another may have a project deadline that leaves little room for uncertainty. In each case, the first step is to understand what the profile needs to achieve: where it will be used, how it will be applied, whether finishing is required, what timing constraints exist and whether the design is practical to extrude.
The value of that early conversation is not in asking more questions. It is in preventing uncertainty later.
“Customers need to know their enquiry or order is in safe hands,” says Kunal. “For me, that means listening properly, asking the right questions early and being open throughout the process. If something needs to be checked internally, we do that. The aim is to give the customer a clear answer they can work with.”
The right expertise at the right moment
That answer may involve several people behind the scenes, from sales and design to planning, production, logistics and quality. The customer does not need to manage that complexity. What matters is that the right expertise is brought in at the right moment, so the enquiry can move forward with fewer assumptions and a clearer route to delivery.
In a market where pricing, availability and lead times can influence decisions quickly, speed has to be useful. A fast answer has little value if it later needs to be corrected. A carefully checked answer gives the customer something more practical: clarity they can act on. It also shows the enquiry is being handled properly before the order moves further into the process.
No customer should be left guessing
The same principle applies when something does not go exactly as planned. Manufacturing depends on materials, capacity, technical detail and timing. Customers understand that challenges can happen. What matters is whether they are left waiting, guessing or chasing for information.
“Customers do not want to be left guessing,” says Kunal. “If there is a challenge, they need to understand what is happening, what we are doing about it and what the next step is.”
That openness is often what separates a supplier from a partner. Not because every process is perfect, but because the customer is kept close enough to make informed decisions.
In one example, a conversation about the end use of an extrusion helped BOAL involve its design team and offer a solution to a problem the customer had not been able to resolve elsewhere. That is where the value becomes visible: not simply in answering an enquiry, but in helping the customer find a practical way forward.
Reliable extrusion depends on more than the press. It depends on the quality of the conversation before production begins, the accuracy of the information shared between teams and the care taken to keep the customer informed.
For companies looking for a UK aluminium extrusion partner, the first conversation is often the most important one. It is where the application becomes clear, the right expertise is brought in, practical options begin to take shape and a requirement starts to become a reliable aluminium solution.
